Lumsden and Mayes top the stat charts as Young Lions make it to the semis
Hampshire's gun duo Manny Lumsden and Ben Mayes star again as England Under-19s make it to the semis, putting an end to New Zealand's world cup campaign
England beat New Zealand by 65 runs, storming into the semi-finals of the ICC Under-19 World cup remaining unbeaten.
Lumsden was the standout performer with the ball, taking a sensational five-for to rip through New Zealand's batting order and move to the top of the tournament wicket-takers’ list. The Hampshire seamer finished with figures of 5 for 17, at an economy of just 2.5, and now has 13 wickets from five matches.
The spell began in dramatic fashion. Lumsden struck twice in his first over, finding the outside edge on both occasions, removing skipper Tom Jones before returning in his seventh to finish the job. A clever change of pace got the better of Sandhu, before he rattled Burns’ off stump, and then removed Hunter Shore with the very next ball to bring New Zealand’s innings to a close.

It's a lovely feeling. It feels amazing to contribute to a win and get five wickets on the board. I just tried to keep the stumps in play with the variable bounce. As you saw with the last couple of wickets, the ball was staying low. It was about staying disciplined with my line and length to eventually get the reward.

With the bat, Mayes once again underlined his consistency at number 3. The Hampshire batter top-scored for England with a composed 53 from 70 balls, striking five fours, including his trademark on-drive to bring up a well-paced half-century.
Already the leading run-scorer of the tournament, Mayes now has 375 runs in five matches, averaging well over 100, continuing his dream World Cup campaign.
England make it to the semi-finals, knocking New Zealand out of the competition.
