Metro Bank One Day Cup (Group A)
Friday 9th August 2024 (11am Start)
South Northumberland CC

Hampshire continue their Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign with a trip up north to take on Durham at South Northumberland CC on Friday.

Following the convincing victory over Derbyshire, the Rose & Crown currently sit second in Group A, only behind Somerset on net run rate with a game in hand.

Durham though are currently in sixth spot after their last match against Middlesex was abandoned without a ball bowled. They are three points off of those in the qualification places.

The two sides have only met once in the last ten years in List A cricket, where Durham ran our nine-wicket winners in 2021, courtesy of a Graham Clark century. Fletcha Middleton made his professional debut in the match.

Hampshire Squad

Hampshire have named a 13-player squad for their match against Durham.

Joe Weatherley, who made 93 in the match against Derbyshire, has returned to Southern Brave so is no longer available. Muhammad Abbas also misses out.

Dom Kelly comes into this one off the back of a hat-trick and first career five-for which ensured Hampshire took the win at Utilita Bowl.

Academy graduate Ethan Martin is included as 12th man, while Ali Orr also continues his recovery from injury.

Durham

Captain: Alex Lees

Since losing in the 2021 One Day Cup final to Glamorgan, Durham have failed to qualify for the knockout stages in the previous two years. Last season they finished fifth in Group B after an inconsistent campaign, picking up seven points from their eight matches. This season has transpired in a similar fashion so far. They picked up a win over Lancashire in their opening match, only to suffer consecutive heavy defeats to Worcestershire Rapids and Somerset. A bounce back victory over Northamptonshire followed, before their last match against Middlesex was abandoned without a ball bowled – leaving them in sixth spot.

Alex Lees, who skippers the side, has stood out so far with the bat, along with the likes of Colin Ackermann, Scott Borthwick and 19-year-old Ben McKinney – all of who have over 100 runs from their four matches so far. Ackermann also has seven wickets to his name, while Bas de Leede (7) and Paul Coughlin (9) account for a large majority of the wickets taken. Alongside McKinney, Durham also boast a number of other younger players including the likes of James Minto, Jonathan Bushnell and Haydon Mustard, the son of former England wicket-keeper batter Phil Mustard.
