Metro Bank One Day Cup Final
Saturday 20th September (11am start)
Trent Bridge
Hampshire Men travel to Trent Bridge for the final of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
Nick Gubbins’ side made the final in 2023 where they ended runners-up to Leicestershire, with previous finals in the 50-over competition coming in 2019 and 2018, where the club lifted the trophy at Lord’s.
In the semi-final against Yorkshire at Scarborough, back on 31st August, Liam Dawson recorded a career-best of 142 in List A cricket as Hampshire posted 304-6 with the aid of a quickfire 61 from Scott Currie.
Wickets were shared between the bowlers as Dawson, Currie, and Eddie Jack all claimed two wickets with one for Brad Wheal as, after a rain delay, the White Rose needed 235 for victory in 41 overs, but fell 18 runs short.
Worcestershire Rapids convincingly defeated Somerset in their semi-final, by 131 runs (DLS method).
Teenage sensation Dan Lategan smashed 78 off 82 balls with Brett D’Oliveira the next best with 45 as the Rapids made 275-9 in their 50 overs.
Pakistan seamer Khurram Shahzad then stole the show with 4-36 (7) and all-rounder Eathan Brookes claimed 3-16 (2.2) as Somerset were skittled for 141 inside 30 overs to give the Rapids their place in the final.
There is a reserve day on Sunday 21st September if the fixture cannot be completed on Saturday.
Hampshire Men have named a 16-player squad for the Metro Bank One Day Cup Final.
Toby Albert returns to the fold having featured in Hampshire’s victory over Bristol where he made 52.
16-year-old Manny Lumsden is also included having made his professional debut and taken six wickets in three games.
Liam Dawson and Sonny Baker are unavailable due to international duty as England take on Ireland in a three-match IT20 series, whilst Scott Currie could return to play tomorrow – England selection dependent.

Why they can win: Worcestershire are blessed with the availability of many first-team regulars who are not affected by selection in The Hundred, meaning the majority of Alan Richardson’s first-choice eleven will be involved for the Rapids across the tournament. Skipper Jake Libby and mid-season signing Khurram Shahzad will look to show their quality and blend with some exciting youngsters to compete for silverware.
Player to watch: Tom Taylor. Having registered the most wickets for Worcestershire so far this season, the right-arm seamer has been in stand-out form across all formats this summer for his side. The 30-year-old has made his name as a frugal opening bowler and will be looking to continue his consistent performances that have yielded him an impressive average of under 25 across both formats.
Young gun: Henry Cullen. The exciting 22-year-old wicketkeeper featured during this year’s Vitality Blast having been on the radar for some time at Visit Worcestershire New Road. His eye-catching displays for the 2nd XI have forced an opening into the senior set-up, with this competition the perfect platform for the cultured and efficient young batter to show off his skills.
Final thought: A promising end to the Vitality Blast campaign will offer supporters hope that the Rapids white-ball form can extend further into the summer, with the likes of Ethan Brookes central to any hopes of bettering last year’s encouraging quarter-final finish. Having lacked consistency throughout the summer, the exciting crop of youngsters will be looking to breakthrough and enjoy successful campaigns in a side more than capable of challenging deep into the tournament.
