Match Preview: Hampshire v Gloucestershire - Royal London One-Day Cup

Hampshire take on Gloucestershire in the latest instalment of Royal London One-Day Cup action at the The Ageas Bowl on Tuesday

Hampshire will be looking to continue their unbeaten run to begin this year Royal London One-Day Cup when they take on Gloucestershire at the The Ageas Bowl tomorrow.

James Vince’s squad have enjoyed an excellent start to their 50-over title defence so far, picking up three victories from the opening three matches, securing wins over Kent Spitfires, Glamorgan and Middlesex.

Hampshire Squad:

A 14-man squad has been named for Friday’s fixture with Aneurin Donald, Brad Taylor and Brad Wheal featuring alongside the final XI that lined-up against Middlesex on Tuesday.

Kyle Abbott is currently third in the list of top wicket-takers across the country in this year’s 50-over competition, claiming eight wickets at an average of just 15.50 in the first three matches, whilst Liam Dawson, who picked up three wickets against Middlesex earlier this week, is just one behind with seven scalps.

Overseas batsman Aiden Markram has also proved to be a valuable asset with both bat and ball so far this campaign, recording his first half-century whilst also claiming three wickets against Dawid Malan’s side.

The Opposition:

Gloucestershire were only able to finish seventh in the South Group in 2018, but the visitors have enjoyed a more positive start to this year’s campaign, picking up two wins from their three matches so far.

Gareth Roderick has been crucial to their success with the bat with 212 runs to begin the competition, including an unbeaten century against Kent Spitfires and a valuable 74 in a destructive victory against Surrey – in which the London-based side were dismissed for just 88. Spinner Tom Smith has been the most consistent option with the ball for Chris Dent’s side, totalling five wickets at an economical rate.

Although yet to completely fire this year, former Hampshire all-rounder Benny Howell returns to the The Ageas Bowl, and his variety with the ball and destructive middle-order hitting with the bat will present dangers that will need be contained on Friday.
