Hampshire have been handed a major boost ahead of their next two Royal London One-Day Cup matches against Gloucestershire at Bristol (Tuesday 14 June) and Surrey at the The Ageas Bowl (Wednesday 15 June) with Shahid Afridi named in the 13-man squad.
The club’s overseas star had originally only been signed on for Hampshire’s NatWest T20 Blast campaign, but the Pakistan all-rounder will now feature in all limited overs cricket.
Captain James Vince also returns to the side from England duty for Hampshire's match against Surrey at the The Ageas Bowl on Wednesday whilst fast-bowler Gareth Berg has also been added to the squad.
Hampshire Squad:
Opener Tom Alsop, who impressed with the bat in Hampshire’s opening Royal London One-Day Cup match against Essex, returns to the 50-over squad after missing the victory against Middlesex through illness. However fellow opener Michael Carberry is still not available through injury, whilst Tino Best and James Tomlinson are named in the squad and could make their first Royal London One-Day Cup appearance of the season.
The Opposition:
Australian opener Michael Klinger will be the key man in the top order for Gloucestershire whilst former Hampshire all-rounder Benny Howell is likely to feature. The competition holders have made a slow start to the defence of their crown, having lost all three of their opening Royal London One-Day Cup matches.
England batsman Jason Roy will be the key player with the bat for Surrey at the The Ageas Bowl on Wednesday whilst Tom and Sam Curran are likely to play a big part with the ball. Like Gloucestershire, Surrey are yet to win a Royal London One-Day Cup match this season having lost their opening two games.
