Hampshire’s Brad Wheal Thrust Into Action With Scotland In Remarkable Fashion For Upcoming T20 World Cup
The South African-born right-hand bowler is involved in Scotland’s World Cup squad with the tournament commencing on Saturday 7th February.
Hampshire will be searching for a second Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final victory at the The Ageas Bowl in as many seasons, as they take on Lancashire knowing that a win on Sunday will secure a place in the competition’s final and a trip to Lord’s.
Hampshire Squad:
A 13-man squad has been named for Sunday’s 50-over contest.
James Vince, who has been away from the side on International duty with England, is included in the squad and it is hoped that he will return to skipper the side, subject to clearance from the ECB.
Liam Dawson’s stellar One-Day Cup campaign with both bat and ball has seen him thrown into the conversation for England’s ICC Cricket World Cup squad, and he’ll be hoping to continue to press his claims with a strong performance on Sunday. The all-rounder has picked up 17 wickets at just 18.64 a piece (with an economy of just 4.01) to go with 246 runs at an average of almost 50.
Kyle Abbott has had an outstanding campaign so far – his haul of 20 wickets at an average of just 18.90 in just eight matches good enough for fourth in the list of top wicket-takers across the country – and his skill both with the new ball and at the death will be vital on Sunday.
The Opposition:
Lancashire have enjoyed a strong 50-over campaign, finishing third in the North Group before defeating the South Group’s second-placed side Middlesex in their quarter-final on Friday.
Steven Croft and Dane Vilas have both been instrumental to that success with the bat with the duo totalling 930 runs across their nine matches so far. Young seamer Saqib Mahmood has been the star with the ball for the visitors having claimed 25 wickets at an average of just under 19 in the competition so far. The 22-year-old has impressed leading the Lancashire attack and played a pivotal role in the quarter-final, taking a match-winning 4-38 from his allocation.
