Metro Bank One Day Cup (Group A)
Sunday 28th July 2024 (11am Start)
Utilita Bowl

Hampshire welcome Somerset to Utilita Bowl for a Metro Bank One Day Cup clash on Sunday.

Nick Gubbins' side will be looking to build on the victory over Northamptonshire Steelbacks in their opening match of the competition, coming out on top by 71 runs.

Somerset also won their first game, defeating Kent Spitfires by three wickets at The Cooper Associates County Ground.

The last time the two sides met in 50-over cricket was in the 2019 Royal London Cup final, which saw Somerset lift their first List A title since 2001.

Hampshire Squad

Hampshire have named an unchanged 12-player squad for their match against Somerset.

Ben Brown scored his maiden List A century for Hampshire during their opening match win over Northamptonshire Steelbacks, while Felix Organ also made a half-century.

Eddie Jack and Tom Prest recorded career best figures with the ball of 4-29 and 3-41 respectively.

Muhammad Abbas is included despite suffering an injury in the last match and his fitness is being monitored.

Somerset

Captain: Sean Dickson

Since winning the 2019 Royal London Cup, Somerset have found the 50-over competition difficult to navigate, having failed to qualify from the group stages ever since. In 2023, they won only three of their eight matches and finished seventh in Group B, six points off of those in the qualification spots. However, this year has started off very brightly with a victory over Kent Spitfires in the opening match.

Andy Umeed, who finished with the second most runs and highest average of any batter to play more than six matches last year, started the competition in similar form this time around. His unbeaten 114 proved to be match winning against Kent. Alongside Umeed, the likes of George Thomas, James Rew and skipper Sean Dickson represent some solid depth in the batting line-up. Somerset also boast a young but talented bowling line-up with six of the seven who bowled in the opening match under the age of 24. Lewis Goldsworthy took his career best in all formats, while Kasey Aldridge and Alfie Ogborne also taking wickets. England Test spinner Jack Leach is a very dangerous option also.
