Hampshire take on Surrey in the Specsavers County Championship at the The Ageas Bowl
Following a disappointing end to the Vitality Blast, Hampshire return to Specsavers County Championship action with what will be back-to-back four-day games with Surrey. It was a well-deserved draw last time out at the Oval and that positive showing leads nicely into the latest round of red-ball action, starting on Tuesday.
Hampshire Squad:
A 14-man strong squad has been named for Tuesday’s fixture at the The Ageas Bowl.
Tom Alsop, who has been out with a hamstring injury since June 30thwill replace Rilee Rossouw in the middle order. Felix Organ, Keith Barker, James Fuller and Ryan Stevenson will all be hoping to feature after leading the Hampshire Second XI to County Championship glory against Leicestershire last week.
Harry Came, who featured at the Oval in August as Aneurin Donald’s concussion replacement, will also be vying for a place in the starting XI. Kyle Abbott and Fidel Edwards are back at the The Ageas Bowl for four-day action and will be hoping to continue from where they left off, the pair have taken 91 wickets between them in the Championship this season.
The Opposition:
After a superb 2018 campaign which saw them claim the Division One title, Surrey have failed to continue that success this season, claiming just two wins from their 11 fixtures so far with five draws, the joint most in the league with Hampshire.
They’ll be without Club captain Rory Burns and top-order batsman Jason Roy who are both away with England – all-rounder Sam Curran could be available as well as batsman Ollie Pope, whose 221 not out was the highlight in the drawn reverse fixture last month.
Despite some notable absentees – there is still depth to the Surrey line-up with the likes of Ben Foakes, Scott Borthwick and Mark Stoneman all likely threats with the bat, whilst the visitor’s bowling attack is spearheaded by South African superstar, Morne Morkel (38 wickets) and veteran all-rounder Rikki Clarke, who at the age of 38 has taken 35 wickets with the ball and scored 555 runs with the bat this season.
