Vitality County Championship (Division One)
Friday 19th April – Monday 22nd April 2024 (11am Start)
Utilita Bowl

Hampshire will once again be in Vitality County Championship action at Utilita Bowl this week, welcoming Warwickshire.

In the match against Lancashire last week, James Vince's side picked up 12 points after securing a draw.

Meanwhile, Warwickshire have drawn both of their opening games, but currently sit second having picked up a total of 12 bonus points.

The two sides last met in May last season when the visitors recorded an innings victory.

Hampshire Squad

Hampshire have named an unchanged 12-player squad for the match against Warwickshire.

Four players scored half centuries in Hampshire's draw with Lancashire, including Nick Gubbins who scored one in each innings. Liam Dawson, who was another to score over fifty in the match, also took four wickets.

Brad Wheal has gone on loan to Glamorgan for their game against Northamptonshire but can still be made available up until the toss if needed for Hampshire.

Full Hampshire Squad

James Vince (14) Captain

Liam Dawson (8)

James Fuller (26)

Nick Gubbins (31)

Ian Holland (22)

Warwickshire

Squad: Alex Davies (c), Hassan Ali, Ed Barnard, Chris Benjamin, Jacob Bethell, Danny Briggs, Michael Burgess (+), Olly Hannon-Dalby, Craig Miles, Dan Mousley, Will Rhodes, Che Simmons, Rob Yates

Opening matches with newly promoted sides Worcestershire and Durham represented an interesting start to the season for Warwickshire. Though both ended in draws, there have been some promising performances already for the Birmingham based side. Three players made scores over 150 in their draw with Durham, including 256 from their new captain Alex Davies.

Davies, who took over from Will Rhodes as captain, leads a side with a lot of quality. Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Chris Rushworth both took over 50 wickets in last year's County Championship and lead a highly-skilled seam-attack. Meanwhile, the performances of Rob Yates, Ed Barnard, Davies and Rhodes will be vital at the top of the order. Youngsters Dan Mousley and Jacob Bethell are also ones to keep an eye on.
