50-over Champions Hampshire open their 2019 Royal London One-Day Cup campaign on Wednesday against last year's runners-up Kent Spitfires
After a triumphant 2018 Royal London One-Day campaign which saw Hampshire claim last year’s trophy, James Vince’s side get their title defence underway under the lights at Canterbury against beaten finalists Kent Spitfires on Wednesday.
Hampshire Squad:
A 13-man squad has been named for this week’s competition curtain-raiser as Hampshire look to begin their white-ball season with a victory against the opponents they faced at Lord’s last June.
Mason Crane is in line to make his season debut after last featuring for Hampshire in the 2018 final whilst off-season signing James Fuller is also including in the travelling party. Tom Alsop, who suffered a left thumb injury in Hampshire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Essex, is also available for selection.
The Opposition:
Kent Spitfires enjoyed an excellent run in last year’s competition, finishing third in the South Group before defeating 2017 champions Notts Outlaws on their home patch in the quarter-finals, and then against Worcestershire Rapids to seal their final place before losing to Hampshire at Lord’s.
The hosts’ will be looking for revenge as both sides go head-to-head in the first South Group match of 2019, and the Spitfires’ top-order will be crucial to their chances with Heino Kuhn, Daniel Bell-Drummond and Joe Denly all set to feature.
