Joseph Eckland And Daisy Mullan Released
Keeper-batter Joseph Eckland and all-rounder Daisy Mullan will leave Hampshire Cricket on the expiration of their contracts
The Southern Vipers will begin their 2019 Kia Super League campaign this Sunday as they head to Liverpool CC to take on Lancashire Thunders in the competition curtain-raiser.
Southern Vipers Squad:
The Vipers have named a 15-player squad for the season opener with brand new captain and England International Tammy Beaumont leading the side for the first time.
Beaumont has taken the reigns from New Zealand all-rounder Suzie Bates, who will still be present in the Vipers’ side along with fellow overseas stars such as Stafanie Taylor (WI) and Amanda-Jade Wellington (Aus), who recently replaced the injured Australian Sophie Molineux.
The squad also features England batsman Danni Wyatt, who’s destructive attitude at the crease is capable of taking the game away from any side.
The Opposition:
England fast bowler Kate Cross takes over from Danielle Hazell, who has retired and will coach arch-rivals Yorkshire Diamonds this summer.
In 2017, Lancashire Thunder again came bottom of the table and lost all five of their group-stage matches, but they showed great signs of improvement in 2018. They won five of the 10 matches which gave them fourth place, narrowly missing out on a Finals Day spot.
The Thunder completed the double of victories over the Vipers during the 2018 KSL. With overseas players: Harmanpreet Kaur (IND), Sune Luus (SA), Tahlia McGrath (AUS) and England star Sophie Ecclestone in their ranks, they will be a tough nut to crack throughout the campaign.
