Match Preview: Middlesex v Hampshire, Metro Bank One Day Cup
Hampshire have named a 14-player squad for their final Metro Bank One Day Cup group match against Middlesex at Merchant Taylors' School
Middlesex v Hampshire Metro Bank One Day Cup (Group A) Wednesday 14th August 2024 (11am Start) Merchant Taylors' School
Hampshire visit Merchant Taylors' School for their final Metro Bank One Day Cup group stage match against Middlesex.
Two defeats on the bounce have seen Hampshire drop down to fourth in Group A, meaning they need to better Durham's result – and remain ahead of Derbyshire on net run rate – in order to qualify for the quarter-final.
Middlesex are currently in sixth spot and, though they sit just two points behind the team in third, they cannot now qualify as at least one of Durham or Derbyshire will be out of reach following their match.
Fletcha Middelton made his first professional century when the two sides met last year to guide Hampshire to victory.

Middlesex have struggled to perform during the last few One Day Cup camapigns, with their last qualification from the group stage coming all the way back in 2019. Last season saw them win just two of their eight group matches as they finished seventh out of nine teams in their group. So far in 2024, they have improved on that and, despite losing their first two matches convincingly, go into the final game in sixth place with three wins to their name.
Only two Middlesex batters have over 200 runs in this year's competition – Joe Cracknell and skipper Mark Stoneman – while no one in their ranks has recorded a century. Although, the likes of Sam Robson, Nathan Fernandes and Martin Andersson all have the potential to post a score. With the ball, Henry Brookes leads the way with nine wickets, while Luke Hollman has eight. Furthermore, Ethan Bamber, Josh De Caires and 19-year-old Noah Cornwell are dangerous options.
