Match Preview: Middlesex v Hampshire - Royal London One-Day Cup
An unchanged 15-man squad has been named for Wednesday's away fixture at Merchant Taylors' School
Despite narrowly falling to a difficult one-run defeat against Kent Spitfires last week, Hampshire continue to sit top of the South Group and will be searching for another valuable Royal London One-Day Cup victory against third-placed Middlesex on Wednesday.
Hampshire Squad:
An unchanged 15-man squad has once again been named for Wednesday’s away fixture, with Sean Ervine, Chris Sole and Fidel Edwards included alongside the XI that featured on Sunday.
Joe Weatherley struck his first Hampshire century against Joe Denly’s side at the weekend, and he’ll be hoping to continue that good form in the middle order this week - the right-hander is averaging 87 in his four innings so far this campaign.
The Opposition:
Middlesex struggled in both white-ball competitions last year, finishing eighth and seventh in the Royal London One-Day Cup and T20 Blast competitions respectively, however, Steven Finn’s side have begun this year’s 50-over tournament positively, currently sitting third in the South Group and one point behind Hampshire and Somerset.
Ravi Patel has been key to the hosts’ success so far, claiming 14 wickets at an average of just 18.14 from their first five fixtures, whilst Paul Stirling has been equally impressive with the bat, totalling 309 runs at an average of 61.80 to start the campaign.
