Northern Diamonds v Southern Vipers

Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy

Wednesday 4th September 2024 (10:30am start)

Headingley

Southern Vipers head north to Headingley where they take on now top-of-the-table Northern Diamonds.

The two sides are long rivals in regional cricket, with both teams having featured in finals against each other three times in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, with the Vipers lifting the trophy twice against them.

The Vipers are searching for a win that will guarantee them a semi-final spot.

A win will see them qualify for the top four whilst a defeat for fifth-placed The Blaze, who take on Thunder, will also see the Vipers into the semi-finals.

They were beaten by a Central Sparks side led by Eve Jones, in what turned out to be her final game for the west Midlands outfit, by seven wickets, despite another half-century from Georgia Elwiss this summer.

The Diamonds meanwhile came out victorious against their northern counterparts, Thunder, with a maiden List A century from Sterre Kalis and 6-20 from Phoebe Turner steering them towards an 86-run win.

In these sides’ previous RHFT fixture, Ella McCaughan scored a career-best 83 and Charlie Dean took 4-34 as the Vipers won by 70 runs (DLS method) at Utilita Bowl.

Northern Diamonds squad: Erin Burns, Rebecca Duckworth, Katherine Fraser, Abi Glen, Sterre Kalis, Beth Langston, Katie Levick, Emma Marlow, Rachel Slater, Phoebe Turner, Sophia Turner, Maddie Ward, Jess Woolston, Lauren Winfield-Hill

Diamonds will be without their leading run scorer and captain, Hollie Armitage, who is over in Ireland preparing for England Women’s ODI series, whilst the Vipers will be without Freya Kemp.

Lauren Winfield-Hill is expected to take over the captaincy in place of Armitage, as the Diamonds look to secure a home semi-final on 14th September.

The Diamonds’ keeper is their second-leading run-scorer with 343 to her name, with three half-centuries, whilst 21-year-old pacer Phoebe Turner is now their leading wicket-taker following her six-for in the last match.

Katie Levick and Erin Burns are their leading spinners, with 15 and 13 wickets respectively, whilst former international Beth Langston will look to swing the ball early on.

Sterre Kalis is coming into the game off the back of her first List A century, whilst Emma Marlow (269 runs) will open up with the expected skipper.
