Southern Vipers v Northern Diamonds

Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy

Saturday 27th April 2024 (10:30am start)

Utilita Bowl

Southern Vipers completed a resounding win against Central Sparks on Wednesday, securing a bonus point as they chased down 173 at Wormsley.

Charli Knott starred once again with her maiden Vipers half-century, with Georgia Elwiss making her 50th appearance for the Vipers.

For the first time at Utilita Bowl this summer, the Vipers welcome Northern Diamonds, a constant nemesis, with the two teams often jostling it out for trophies at the end of each competition.

The two sides were involved in a thriller at Gosforth the last time they faced eachother, with the Vipers getting over the line by just three runs, as the visitors squeezed the Diamonds for runs, despite a Hollie Armitage century.

Southern Vipers have named a 13-player squad to take on the Diamonds at Utilita Bowl.

Maia Bouchier and Charlie Dean remain whilst Georgia Elwiss is being rested, and Alice Monaghan is unavailable due to a family event.

Freya Davies returns to the squad after missing out against the Sparks.

Northern Diamonds

The Diamonds arguably haven’t been as competitive in recent years compared to the start of the regional era in 2020.

From making finals in the first three editions of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, and the 2021 Charlotte Edwards Cup final at Utilita Bowl, the Diamonds failed to reach the same level in 2023, despite the excellent of Lauren Winfield-Hill at the top of the order scoring over 100 RHFT runs more than Georgia Adams in second place.

Katie Levick was the standout with the ball, as the veteran of domestic cricket picked up 24 wickets with her wily leg spin.

Over the off-season, the Diamonds managed to nab Erin Burns from Central Sparks as their overseas in place of Chloe Tryon who played for the north east side last summer.

Bess Heath is one to watch out for, as the young England wicket keeper, who repairs and maintains Land Rovers in her spare time, is a certain star of the future, capable of clearing the boundaries with ease.

She scored 286 runs at an average of 40.85 whilst striking at 133 in last summer’s RHFT.
