Southern Vipers v Sunrisers

Charlotte Edwards Cup

Monday 27th May 2024 (2:30pm start)

Arundel Castle

Southern Vipers make their first trip to Arundel Castle of 2024 when they face Sunrisers in the return fixture of their previous clash on Friday night at Chelmsford.

Freya Kemp and Georgia Elwiss were the stars over at Essex, as they both recorded their maiden Charlotte Edwards Cup half-centuries to power the Vipers through to 171-2.

Their partnership for the third wicket was 110 – the highest ever stand for the Vipers in CEC matches – surpassing Maia Bouchier and Danni Wyatt’s opening partnership against Thunder in last year’s eliminator.

Mary Taylor impressed with the ball, picking up two wickets in as many balls, whilst Linsey Smith continued to be economical on her return from international duty, conceding less than a run a ball.

Jo Gardner and Mady Villiers provided some resistance for the Vipers, as both players recorded their highest CEC scores, but the late power-hitting from Elwiss and Kemp – who took 66 runs off the final five overs – proved too much for the hosts.

Southern Vipers Squad

Southern Vipers have named a 13-player squad for their trip to the Castle on bank holiday Monday.

Ava Lee is removed from an otherwise unchanged squad.

Georgia Adams Captain (1)

Alice Monaghan (20)

Freya Davies (61)

Linsey Smith (50)

Georgia Elwiss (34)

Rhianna Southby (17)

Nancy Harman (25)

Megan Sturge (3)

Freya Kemp (6)

Mary Taylor (9)

Charli Knott (88)

Emily Windsor (4)

Ella McCaughan (8)

Sunrisers

Sunrisers are still yet to win their second T20 match, with their only win so far coming in their very first CEC game in 2021 against Western Storm.

Runs from Villiers and Gardner will be a promising sign, and had they batted first on Friday, the duo could’ve put on an imposing total for the Vipers to chase down.

Sunrisers will be wanting to see their overseas star, Nicola Hancock, who has taken one wicket having conceded 20 runs, replicate her bowling form in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, which sees her lead the wicket charts in the 50-over competition.
