Southern Vipers v Sunrisers

Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy

Saturday 7th September 2024 (10:30am start)

Utilita Bowl

Southern Vipers are back at Utilita Bowl on Saturday 7th September in a bid to reach the semi-finals of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

Three defeats in a row after The Hundred leaves the Vipers third in the table, with Sunrisers four points behind in fifth.

Only a bonus point win for the Sunrisers will see them into the top four, with the Vipers well ahead on net run rate, even if they lose.

A win for the Vipers could see them into the top two, and a home semi-final on Saturday 14th September, if South East Stars are beaten by top-of-the-table Northern Diamonds or their match at Chester-le-Street is abandoned.

Georgia Adams was the star last time out for the Vipers, as her 57 and 4-30 almost saw the Vipers over the line, whilst Rebecca Tyson and Naomi Dattani both impressed on debut, with spinner Tyson claiming 3-49 and Dattani scoring a quickfire 34.

Sunrisers were beaten by bottom-of-the-table Western Storm by 30 runs on Wednesday, as they were bowled out for 150 chasing just 181 for victory at Radlett.

However, the Sunrisers have beaten the Vipers twice this year – once in the RHFT and once in the CEC – with a close contest at Radlett before another final over thriller at Arundel.

It all makes for an exciting prospect, so long as the rain stays away, on Saturday.

Sunrisers

Captain: Grace Scrivens

Sunrisers have lost Mady Villiers as she tours Ireland, whilst Grace Scrivens may consider herself unlucky not to have been selected.

Like the Vipers, the Sunrisers have had a tricky time out since The Hundred, losing two matches and winning just one – against Northern Diamonds.

They will rely on Grace Scrivens to do much of the legwork with the bat – she has 160 runs more than second-placed Jodi Grewcock – whilst the latter is their leading wicket-taker in the absence of Villiers.

Other key batters include the experienced Cordelia Griffith (240 runs) and Flo Miller, who helped see the ‘Risers over the line the last time the two sides met in the RHFT at Radlett.

Kate Coppack will be a threat with the ball up front – she took 4-48 as the Vipers were reduced to 5-38 at Utilita Bowl in 2022 – with the on-loan Sophie Munro (12 wickets) providing another seam option, along with Eva Gray.
