Thunder v Southern Vipers

Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy

Sunday 14th July 2024 (10:30am start)

Sedbergh School

Southern Vipers head to Sedbergh School in Cumbria to take on Thunder in the final round of the RHFT before The Hundred.

The Vipers came home from a convincing win at Falkland CC against South East Stars, where Freya Davies claimed her best figures in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, against her former club.

Charli Knott reached fifty for the fourth time as a Viper as the target of 121 was comfortably chased down inside 23 overs.

Thunder were also victorious in their previous game, as they defeated Central Sparks by eight wickets.

Tara Norris, formerly of the Vipers, took 4-18 in ten overs, with left arm spinner Sophie Morris picking up 3-31 as the hosts were skittled for 144 before 71* from Emma Lamb and 52* from Katie Mack sealed the win after 29 overs.

The two sides met earlier this summer at Wormsley, where the Vipers completed a nail-biting victory, as Nancy Harman and Alice Monaghan saw the team over the line by three wickets.

Linsey Smith claimed outstanding figures of 3-19 off her ten overs, with Mary Taylor also picking up two wickets before Georgias Adams and Elwiss were the top run scorers making 51 and 43 respectively.

Southern Vipers have named a 13-player squad to take on Thunder at Sedbergh.

This match will be Charli Knott’s last for the Vipers this summer as the regional teams break for The Hundred.

Thunder

Thunder closed the gap to the semi-final spaces with a win in their last game, but, with just five games to go, can they overcome the seven-point gap to South East Stars in fourth?

A relatively strong side on paper, with England’s Emma Lamb at the top of the order having missed out on international honours this summer, along with up-and-coming wicket keeper Seren Smale.

Katie Mack, Fi Morris – formerly of the Vipers, and captain Ellie Threlkeld make up an experienced middle order, with Naomi Dattani and Tara Norris providing some lower order power.

Hannah Jones – the leading wicket taker in the RHFT this year – is their frontline spinner with Ecclestone away with England, along with fellow left-armer Sophie Morris whilst Fi Morris provides an off spin option.

Norris and Phoebe Graham lead the pace attack with Dattani able to chip in with the left arm angle.
