Match Preview: Yorkshire Diamonds v Southern Vipers, Kia Super League

A thrilling final over victory over Yorkshire Diamonds at the The Ageas Bowl on Wednesday helped cement the Southern Vipers’ second-place position in the Kia Super League table, and with just two games to go, Tammy Beaumont’s side know that a victory against the same opponents on Sunday will secure a semi-final place.

Southern Vipers Squad:

An unchanged 15-strong squad has been named for this Sunday’s clash at York.

A third successive score of fifty or more for Danni Wyatt on Wednesday proved to be crucial in securing victory, and she now tops the list of run-getters in the competition so far with her tally now 320 from seven innings.

Tash Farrant and Stafanie Taylor have been the most prolific with the ball having claimed 18 scalps between them so far this summer whilst Amanda-Jade Wellington has also been impressive, picking up seven scalps at just 25 apiece.

The Opposition:

With just two wins from seven matches, including defeat against the Vipers last time out, Yorkshire Diamonds are now all-but out of contention for qualification for Finals Day.

While Lauren Winfield’s side are not short of talent with overseas duo Alyssa Healy and Jemimah Rodrigues joining England’s Katherine Brunt, Katie George and Winfield, their star power hasn’t transferred into the on-field success they would have hoped for this campaign. They’ll be hoping to finish the competition strongly though with three games still remaining.
