Meet...Shaun Hall, Boundary Lakes Golf Course Head Professional

Get to know the staff at the The Ageas Bowl

What are you responsible for within your role?

My role as the Head Professional of Boundary Lakes Golf Course, alongside the Golf Manager, is to oversee the operational side of the golf club.

With the course set to open in summer 2017, I have been involved in ensuring preparations for the course are to the highest standard, building our membership, corporate and socitety offerings as well as assisting with selecting course furniture, buggies, and the contents of a professional shop, which will feature at the venue next year.

Liaising with the greenkeepers and team of groundstaff is also a key part of my role, working together to produce and maintain a course that will provide testing but enjoyable playing conditions .

Typically, what are your day-to-day activities?

Pre-Opening

We receive a high volume of enquiries each day ranging from memberships to societies as well as corporate events, and I ensure that these are responded to promptly with all relevant information and material provided to those wishing to find out more about the course and our offerings.

Liaising with the marketing and commercial team here at the The Ageas Bowl is also a feature of my role, as we seek to keep people informed with news of the course and hole progression.

Post-Opening

Running the course and club from day to day, each day will have a different venture with corporate and charity golf events, all sizes of societies, membership and competitions committee, pay and play visitors of the course. All will be essential to the growth of the venue.

The buggy fleet, on-course buggy refreshments, professional shop, competitions and professional events will all be part of creating an environment for all golfers to enjoy and organised by the professional team.

Lessons will also be available using the short game area, golf pod and relationships with driving ranges, bringing not only golf academies to the venue but also junior and adult coaching programmes.

I will continue my role within the Hampshire PGA as a playing professional and endeavour to play in as many professional events as possible. I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing golf full-time on a handful of mini tours including the Jamega Tour and Euro Pro tour and my goal now is to develop more young golfers to follow a similar path before taking it to the next level.

What inspired you to get into your current role?

Even from an early age, I've always had a passion for golf and being a golf professional for 10 years has allowed me to always stay close to the game I love. I have previously grown into roles as an assistant professional, senior sales advisor, consultant and teaching professional which I've really enjoyed and to be able to combine them all into one and become a head professional was fantastic.

My aim is to help create a stunning golf course that people are proud to be a part of.

Away from the The Ageas Bowl and golf, do you have any hobbies and what do you like to do in your spare time?

Golf is a big part of my life but aside from that, I have a wonderful wife Lizzie and son Henry who is now three, and spending as much time with them is key to winding down from a busy day.

I also enjoy going to the cinema, good dining and socialising with friends and family over a summer BBQ!

Name an interesting fact about yourself:

I once shot 59 – Golf again I know but 10 under par was quite an accomplishment with a double bogey on the third hole!
