Robin Smith: The Judge Who Stood Tall In The Ashes
A masterful batter whose courage defined Ashes series and cemented his place in Hampshire & England history.
We’re kicking off each week in style as we celebrate a special moment from the 2019 season every Monday.
Hampshire arrived at Chelmsford to face Essex Eagles in the Vitality Blast's South Group having made a slow start to their 2019 T20 campaign, registering just one win from their opening four matches.
James Vince won the toss and put the Eagles in and it proved a good decision, a strong all-round bowling performance - all five of Hampshire's bowlers picked up at least a wicket each - saw the hosts dismissed for just 133.
In reply, Vince, batting at three, was at the crease early after Aneurin Donald (4) was bowled by Mohammed Amir in the opening over but Essex were likely cursing that early success as the Hampshire skipper soon found his stride.
By the time he was finished he had 87 and Hampshire were 134-3 in just the 16th over - Vince had found the boundary 15 times during his 54 ball, 61 minute stay at the crease.
