Nick Gubbins: ‘Our squad is one of the strongest in the country’

Nick Gubbins joined Hampshire in July 2021 and immediately made an impact on the side, scoring 137* in his very first outing for the Club.

The left-hander then followed up his unbeaten century with 62 against Essex in the Royal London Cup before he scored a second unbeaten hundred for Hampshire in front of a good crowd at The Ageas Bowl against Sussex.

After just missing out on County Championship victory in 2021, Gubbins is confident that Hampshire can go that one step further.

He said: “It was absolutely gutting to not get over the line in the Championship, which we should have, I think.

“But looking at this year, we’ve got a really strong squad, it’s one of the strongest in the country.”

The top order batter also believes that Hampshire’s squad has a good mix of players which will be key to pushing for silverware in 2022 and beyond.

“We’ve got some experienced players, some players in their prime, and some really good youngsters pushing through,” Gubbins said.

“All in all, it’s a perfect mix and I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.”

In what will be his first full season at the Club, Gubbins is looking forward to getting out in front of the fans at The Ageas Bowl after his warm welcome in 2021.

Gubbins said: “The Ageas Bowl has always been a great place to come and play, even as an away player.

“I briefly had the fans on my side last year and that was awesome, so I’m really looking forward to seeing them back this year.”
