Tom Alsop (116) - Hampshire v Surrey, Royal London One-Day Cup - 15th June 2016
Hampshire faced Surrey at the The Ageas Bowl - on this day - in the group stages of 2016's Royal London One-Day Cup.
Surrey chose to field first and had an immediate reward when Sam Curran bowled Jimmy Adams (7-1). Fellow-opener Tom Alsop then played the anchor role in a partnership of 62 with Vince (41) and was more dominant, adding 116 with Ervine (50) – after Ervine departed (185-3) a couple of wickets fell quickly, leaving Hampshire 211-5 but it was not until the final five overs loomed that Tom Curran bowled fellow Tom, Alsop for a superb 116 from 121 balls with 10 fours – at the time his highest ‘white ball’ innings and first century.
Hampshire closed on 289-8, and at 72-4 Surrey were struggling until their middle order of Ansari (62), Foakes (72), Sam Curran (42) and brother Tom (25) revived their hopes and left them on 274-7 needing 15 to win from the last 12 balls.
Gareth Berg clinched it for Hampshire with three wickets from his final seven balls and Surrey, 283-9, finished six runs short of victory.
Hampshire lost their last group match to Somerset by just five runs and failed to qualify for the knock-out stages.
