James Vince (171) - Hampshire v Yorkshire Vikings, Royal London One-Day Cup, 18th June 2018
James Vince has treated home supporters to some fine innings in ‘white ball’ matches.
In 2017, his 178 v Glamorgan took him past the three innings by Gordon Greenidge which then stood at the head of the county’s records, then in 2019 he beat his own record with 190 v Gloucestershire.
On this day - in 2018 - in between those two magnificent innings, came a slightly more modest score of 171 v Yorkshire and yet in context it probably stands ahead of his other two and the three by Greenidge, for that innings took Hampshire to the Lord’s Final and another one-day trophy.
Vince’s innings that day came from just 126 balls with three sixes and 20 fours – and this on a day when only two other players, Sam Northeast (58) and Jonathan Tattersall, 89 in a lost cause, reached fifty.
Vince was simply magnificent and as captain he led his side to a huge 50-over victory by 107 runs – and held the catch which secured the final wicket.
A short while later he was holding the trophy aloft at Lord’s.
