Hampshire’s youngsters have been featuring in Australian and South African club cricket

Following the close of the 2022 English domestic season in September, a number of Hampshire players have opted to venture overseas in order to hone their skills in competitive fixtures during the winter.

Toby Albert and Tom Prest have made the trip to Australia – playing for Joondalup and Eastern Suburbs respectively – while another youngster, Fletcha Middleton, has joined up with Cape Town in South Africa.

Following a bright campaign in both the Vitality Blast and Royal London Cup, Prest has carried on his good form for Eastern Suburbs.

To date, he has played eight matches for Eastern Suburbs – six T20s and two two-day matches – scoring 322 runs with four half-centuries and taking four wickets. His best performance came in a T20 against University of New South Wales where he made 79 from just 60 balls.

Toby Albert, who also enjoyed a fruitful season for Hampshire, particularly in the Club’s 50-over campaign, has been playing for Joondalup in Western Australia. He has made a couple of scores in the forties and has racked up 149 runs in seven matches.
