Having started in December, the Big Bash League (BBL) came to an end over the weekend. Brisbane Heat finished as runners-up as they narrowly lost the final to Perth Scorchers. Ross Whiteley finished his stint with the Heat having played in nine matches – scoring 74 runs and taking three wickets in total.
Hampshire Hawks’ overseas duo from 2022, Ben McDermott and Nathan Ellis, were part of the Hobart Hurricanes side that finished in sixth place. Ellis ended the competition with 18 wickets, which included a hat-trick against Sydney Thunder. McDermott, meanwhile, scored a total of 196 runs, with two half-centuries.
The International League T20 (ILT20) and SA20 tournaments have been running simultaneously, with a few Hampshire players taking part in both.

The Giants and the Vipers will meet in the Qualifier after finishing first and second respectively.

In the SA20, Adi Birrell has helped his Sunrisers Eastern Cape side to qualify for the semi-final – with James Fuller and Mason Crane playing their parts. Fuller has 76 runs, with a best of 27 not out, while Crane has taken one wicket.
Following the end of the BBL, McDermott also joined up with Durban’s Super Giants for their final three SA20 games and scored a total of 46 runs.
