Paige Scholfield And Tara Norris To Leave Southern Vipers

All-rounder Paige Scholfield and fast bowler Tara Norris have left the Southern Vipers to play for other regions

Southern Vipers are sad to announce that all-rounder Paige Scholfield and fast bowler Tara Norris have left the club and have signed for South East Stars and Thunder respectively.

Norris made her debut for the Vipers in the 2017 KIA Super League, but became a regular fixture in the new regional hub domestic system from 2020.

In 35 matches for Southern Vipers, Norris has taken 51 wickets at an average of 20.16, and has scored 172 runs with a high score of 40 not out in the final of the 2021 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, which saw the Vipers beat Northern Diamonds by three wickets with just two balls to spare.

In 2021, Norris took career best figures, twice, of 4-14, first against Lightning in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, and then against her new team, Thunder, in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

Born in Philadelphia, Norris made her debut for the United States of America in 2021 during the Women’s T20 World Cup Regional Qualifiers, and she has since taken four wickets in five matches for the USA.

Tara has played a massive part in the club’s success in recent years, but has decided to move on to pastures new this autumn in a bid for a fresh challenge. She’s been a match winner with the ball on more occasions than most in the recent past and played a starring role in our 2021 RHF final win with the bat. Her contributions to the team both on and off the pitch will be missed. All of the Vipers wish Tara the very best in her new region.

Adam Carty, Regional Director of Women’s Cricket

Scholfield meanwhile, debuted for the Vipers in the 2018 KIA Super League, and is one of the most experienced players in the team, having played 52 matches for the club.

In 2021, Scholfield took career-best figures of 3-16 against Thunder in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, as the Vipers bowled the north western side out for just 110 before going on to win by three wickets.

During this year’s Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, scored her maiden senior fifty for Southern Vipers, scoring 74 off just 72 balls having come in to bat with the score on 25-3.

She put on 105 runs for the sixth wicket with Chloe Hill, as the Vipers went on to win by just 11 runs.

I was saddened not to have been able to retain Paige as a Viper beyond this season. She certainly played her part in recent club successes across all three disciplines of the game. Whether tasked with taking middle over wickets or scoring middle over runs, particularly but not exclusively in 50 over cricket, Paige would often make her contribution felt. A disciplined competitor, she also played a big part toward us being considered a formidable fielding unit across both competitive codes. She leaves with our thanks for being a good pro’ and we wish her well at the Stars.

Adam Carty, Regional Director of Women’s Cricket

Southern Vipers thanks both Tara and Paige for their hard work on and off the pitch, and wish them success in their new ventures.
