Option One: 89 (97) in second LV= CC innings back from injury

In just his second innings back after two years out of the game, Aneurin Donald produced one of his innings of the season.

After Hampshire were left reeling at 28-4 at the end of day two, albeit with the batting order shifted around to make space for two nightwatchmen, the team found themselves in a spot of bother at The Ageas Bowl when Donald came in to bat with the score on 65-7.

The right-hander was quickly off the mark with a four through the covers off his third ball, but two wickets quickly fell, and Hampshire found themselves at 103-9.

However, it was Donald and James Fuller batting – far from your average last wicket partnership.

Hampshire’s number 12 responded with three consecutive fours off Ryan Higgins, and brought up his half-century by smashing Don Goodman into the stands.

Nye followed it up with another six whipped off his legs, before a third in a row off Goodman, the ball making its way once again into the crowd.

Donald continued his attack, and finished just 11 runs short of what would’ve been a spectacular hundred.

Hampshire went on to win by 87 runs at The Ageas Bowl.

Option Two: Crucial 57 in remarkable innings victory v Somerset

The very next game, Donald was in the runs again.

Having bowled Somerset out for 211 at Taunton, Hampshire were looking for a big innings lead to give them control of the game.

Coming in at 144-5, Donald was once again, quick out the blocks with a four off Craig Overton, bringing up the team’s 150 in the process.

An exquisite cover drive off Lewis Gregory followed before a late cut off Josh Davey.

Nye brought up his fifty with a sweep off England spinner Jack Leach, followed by a dance down the wicket to bring him a second half century in as many innings.

Hampshire ended their innings on 280 all out, before bowling Somerset out for just 69 meaning only one run was required for victory.

Option Three: 76 runs from just 31 balls v Yorkshire in the RLODC

Back in coloured kit, Nye turned up the heat as Hampshire made their second trip of the year to Scarborough on what looked to be a good track for batting.

With the score on 150-2 in the 33rd over, Nye walked out to bat and picked up his first boundary with a pull of Matt Revis.

Donald then hit back to back boundaries off Ben Coad, first taking a couple of steps down the pitch before ramping the Yorkshire seamer not once but twice in the over.

His first six came off Revis with a pull into the stands, and he followed it up by dancing down the pitch and swinging the ball once again into the crowd.

He brought up his half-century with a flat six off Dom Bess as he swept powerfully through midwicket – his fifty coming up after just 23 balls.

Donald then took a liking to off spinner Jack Schutt as he smashed the young bowler for three consecutive sixes.

He first slog swept the spinner before he came down the wicket and launched Shutt into the block of flats at the Trafalgar Square end of the ground.

Shutt then threw in a quicker ball, to which Donald rocked back and pulled him towards the sea for another maximum.

He was only at the crease for less than ten overs of play, but he scored a whopping 76 runs at a strike rate of 245.16.

Hampshire went on to win by 72 runs.

Option Four: 94 (84) in sensational innings victory v Northamptonshire

In perhaps the most remarkable game of season, Nye was at the forefront of a stunning innings victory against Northamptonshire at The Ageas Bowl.

Coming in at 167-5, Hampshire went on to declare on 400-9 with full batting points secured, as Nye smashed his way to 94 from just 84 deliveries.

He opened his boundary count with a drive through the covers off Lizaad Williams and followed it up with back to back boundaries in the South African’s next over.

Donald then took a liking to the spin of Rob Keogh, using his feet to dance down the track to drive the Northants stalwart back down the ground.

With pace brought back into the attack, Nye responded with consecutive boundaries off Ben Sanderson, and he brought up the Hampshire 250 with a perfectly timed punch down the ground.

He brought up his fifty at just under a run-a-ball with another sumptuous drive through the covers before he decided to turn up the wick.

After another couple of drives for four, Nye smacked Williams for six over midwicket before back to back boundaries off the South African.

He fell to a sweep shot off Northants captain Josh Cobb, just six runs shy of what would’ve been his second century for Hampshire.

The team went on to win by an innings and four runs late into the final day, just seconds before the heavens opened.
