Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Rewind: Hill Hits Maiden Vipers Fifty

In just her second match for the Vipers, wicket keeper Chloe Hill hit her first fifty in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat first on a beautifully sunny July morning at The Ageas Bowl, captain Georgia Adams would’ve hoped to see the runs climb up on the scoreboard, but in actuality, it was the wickets.

Sunrisers’ Kate Coppack took the wickets of Charlie Dean, Georgia Elwiss, Ella McCaughan, and Emily Windsor, whilst spinner Mady Villiers picked up the wicket of the Vipers captain herself.

The home side found themselves struggling at 38-5 within nine overs, so it was down to now former Vipers all-rounder Paige Scholfield, and wicket keeper Chloe Hill to rescue the innings.

Hill was soon off the mark second ball with a pull shot that evaded the diving Amara Carr behind the stumps, but it was Scholfield who looked to take the attack to the opposition.

Hill quietly accumulated runs whilst Scholfield looked to up the ante.

The ‘keeper brought up her second boundary in the 20th over, driving a low full toss from Naomi Dattani through the covers for four to bring up the Vipers’ 100.

The pair of Scholfield and Hill kept battling, and their partnership reached 100 in the 29th over when Scholfield clipped Kelly Castle away for a single.

When the all-rounder was dismissed for 74, the duo had put on 105 in a much needed recovery for the Vipers.

Hill carried on, and drove the early innings destroyer, Kate Coppack, back over her head for four before she then pulled the seamer through midwicket for another boundary in her next over.

Along with Tara Norris, Hill helped put on 50 for the seventh wicket, before bringing up a half-century of her own with a clip off her hips – her first fifty for the Vipers and in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

The Vipers’ 200 came and went with another pull shot, before hill was finally dismissed for 55 in the 46th over, but her job was done.

A total of 233-9 was successfully defended, as the Vipers won by just 11 runs.
