Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Rewind: Rain Couldn't Delay The Wyatt Onslaught

Danni Wyatt kicked off our Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign in style as her quickfire 36* brought about victory with two balls to spare

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.

Southern Vipers took on 2021’s third-placed Central Sparks in their opening tie of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, in a rematch of the Charlotte Edwards Cup final at Northampton.

Under cloudy skies, Georgia Adams won the toss and put the Sparks in to bat first where they managed to reach 163-7 off of 36 overs with two rain delays.

Initially set 176 to win from 36 overs, another rain delay led to the Vipers needing just 70 runs from ten overs.

Danni Wyatt seemed to still be in T20 mode, as she clattered 36 off just 24 balls, as the Vipers won by seven wickets with two balls to spare.

After a watchful opening over, Wyatt took 14 off the second, as she punished short balls from Liz Russell by sending them to the boundary rope.

A third boundary off Grace Potts in the third over took the Vipers to 24-1 at the end of the third over.

Another cut shot from Wyatt off her England teammate Sarah Glenn kept the Vipers on track for victory, before she smashed Russell back down the ground for six, as the Vipers then needed nine runs from two overs.

A cameo from Freya Kemp came to an end before Georgia Elwiss walked out to the middle, hit her first ball for six, and walked off having won the game.
