Dorset v Sussex
Sussex romped to a resounding 169-run victory against Dorset to send them top of the South Central Counties Cup table.
Electing to bat first, the prawns of Sussex got off to a shaky start when they lost Phoebe Wilkinson and Nicole Faltum in successive deliveries to the bowling of Lizzie Williams in the ninth over.
With the score on 38-2, Izzy Collis and Chiara Green set about building a formidable total for their opposition to chase, but boundaries were hard to come by and ten overs later, skipper Green was caught by Mamta Kothiyal off the bowling of Emily Roberts for 17.
This brought Viper Nancy Harman to the crease who looked to take the attack to the Dorset bowlers.
At the halfway mark, Sussex brought up their three figures, with opener Collis reaching her half-century from 70 balls, with two fours, at the end of the 26th over.
The pair of Collis and Harman kept the scoreboard ticking over, and brought up their fifty partnership in the 30th over, the runs coming off 65 balls.
Despite the lack of boundaries, the runs continued to flow for Sussex as the 150 was brought up in the 35th over, with the hundred stand between Collis and Harman following suit three overs later.
On 49, Harman found a single off the bowling of Katie Harris as she raised her bat after 71 balls, whilst Collis continued on her way to the second hundred of the competition.
The team’s 200 came and went with a single from Collis, and three balls later she brought up her century off 124 balls with four boundaries before being dismissed for 102 the next over, with the partnership coming to an end on 137 – the third highest of this year’s competition.
With five overs to go, Lucy Western came in and struck a run-a-ball 17, being stumped by Katie Butler off the final delivery, as Nancy Harman ended on 79* form 97 balls as Sussex posted 249-5 at Chapel Gate in Bournemouth.
The home side then struggled early on against the bowling of Anna Buckle and Lottie Jeffreys, with the first wicket coming in the fifth over as Matilda Churchill was caught by Collis off Buckle for just three.
In the 11th over, Chiara Green came into the attack and struck with her fifth ball, trapping Emily Roberts lbw for five before cleaning up Megan Bishop for a single.
Mamta Kothiyal was the next to fall for 21, the top scorer of Dorset’s innings, as she was lbw to Alice Noakes, with the home side struggling at 53-4.
Green then picked up her third wicket, Nicole Faltum catching out Amelie Whitaker for 11 as part of a wicket maiden for the Sussex captain.
Another string of dots came for Green before Katie Butler was bowled for one in the 23rd over – the home side now 57-6.
A partnership of 29 was built between Issy Riley and captain Victoria Pack, but the former was caught by Collis off the bowling of Regina Suddahazai for two, and Lizzie Williams fell for a three ball duck in the same over.
Pack went for 17 the next over, caught Western bowled Harman, with the leg spinner wrapping up the Dorset innings dismissing Katie Harris for a duck, with the home side bowled out for just 80 runs.
Hampshire v Berkshire
Hampshire cruised to victory in Basingstoke as they defeated Berkshire by six wickets with over 12 overs to spare.
Putting the visitors into bat first, the decision paid off early as Holly Rider was run out for two before Katie Jones bowled Olivia Gain for 18 to peg Berkshire back to 25-2 in the eighth over.
Captain Ash Muttitt and Poppy Tulloch forged a partnership of 42 in less than ten overs, but wickets seemed to fall in clusters for the visitors as Eve O’ Neill had Muttitt caught for 19 before Gemma Porter cleaned up Izzy Storrar for a duck, and Berkshire found themselves 68-4 after just 18 overs.
Tulloch began to rebuild the Berkshire innings with new batter Shristi Patil, and the pair took the visitors past the 100 mark in the 28th over, with the fifty partnership coming over four and a half overs later.
However, Patil was stumped by Mia Clark off Izzy Pugh for 19 in the 34th, bringing Freya Johnson to the crease as Tulloch neared her half-century.
A boundary off the first ball of the 36th over and Tulloch raised her bat to her teammates, reaching her half-century from 90 balls with three fours.
The opener carried on but wickets kept falling at the other end, as Johnson and Kali-Ann Docherty fell in quick succession to the bowling of Pugh and Porter respectively.
Accelerating to try and push her team past 200, Tulloch looked to find the boundaries but was dismissed off the penultimate ball for 81, with Berkshire finishing on 181-8 after their 50 overs.
Run outs seemed to be the way to get the first wicket at May’s Bounty, as Abby Stevenson succumbed to the throw of Freya Johnson for 12 as the visitors opened their wicket account.
Ashneet Chahal and Talitha Stanley then put on 32 for the second wicket before the latter was lbw to Laura Bailey for six, bringing keeper Pippa Sproul to the middle.
The pair of Chahal and Sproul set about making a dent into Berkshire’s target with the two batters seeing Hampshire past the 100 mark in the 23rd over.
Sproul looked to be the aggressor, hitting four boundaries on her way to 29, whilst Chahal ran well between the wickets as their partnership came to an end on 66 when the former was bowled by Shayna Chikhlia in the 26th over.
Chahal kept chipping away at the total before she was lbw to Freya Johnson for 40 with Hampshire requiring a further 24 runs.
Annabella Mitchell and captain Gemma Porter safely guided the rose and crown over the finish line to seal victory by six wickets with 12.4 overs to spare.
Buckinghamshire v Oxfordshire
Buckinghamshire completed their first victory of the tournament as they defeated Oxfordshire by 72 runs at Amersham CC.
The home side got off to a flier, despite Molly Carter being run out for nine, as Isabella James looked to attack the visitors’ bowling with new batter Abbie Whybrow.
However, when it seemed the Bucks top order was getting away from them, the Oxfordshire bowlers brought it back, as Emilia Bartram had Whybrow caught behind by Abi Currie for 19 with James falling to the same fate the very next over for 27 giving Kitty Spurgeon her first South Central Counties Cup wicket.
At 72-3 in the 11th over, the visitors looked to tighten their grip on the game, but keeper Ella Claridge and Cara Duggan kept Buckinghamshire’s foot on the accelerator.
At the halfway mark, Claridge was caught by Finty Trussler off Katie Waugh for 22, but the home side had reached 132-4.
Amber Drewe walked out to the middle and was quickly off the mark, and the Bucks 150 came up after 28.3 overs.
Duggan and Drewe seemed to the find the boundary with regularity, bring up their fifty partnership at quicker than a run-a-ball in under half an hour of batting, and it took them just eight overs to take Buckinghamshire from 150 to almost 200, but Drewe fell for 31 with the score on 197.
Bucks’ double century was brought up the very next over through with a single from Duggan, and with a four off the penultimate ball of the 37th, Duggan reached her fifty from 71 balls, with eight boundaries.
Caia Stockdale and Rosie Lloyd hand around with Duggan as she looked to be the aggressor, but both batters fell for double figures to Genny Porter and Emilia Bartram respectively as the home side passed 250.
The boundaries kept flowing off the bat of Duggan and with her 14th four, she found herself in the 90s, but time was running out.
With four balls remaining in the innings, she needed 8 runs to record her century.
However, with the third ball of the final over, she was caught by Isobel Kirby, and Buckinghamshire ended their innings on 288-9 at the end of their 50 overs.
In reply, the visitors lost their first wicket in the second over, as Tegan Stockdale dismissed Genny Porter for no score, bringing Aimee Diab to the crease who looked to score freely along with opener Carla Wood in pursuit of their target of 289.
Oxfordshire got themselves to 45-1 after the first ten but soon lost their second wicket when Diab was caught by Tegan Stockdale off Hannah Critchley for 21.
Wood was still there on 19, and the wicket brought Eillie Ingram to the crease, and the pair took the visitors past three figures in the 21st over, with their fifty partnership following two overs later.
However, both were dismissed in quick time, falling to the bowling of Isabella James in the 25th over, and Oxfordshire reached the halfway mark at 114-4.
The two new batters, Emilia Bartram and Finty Trussler, looked to attack as Oxfordshire required a further 168 in their second half, but the former was caught by Critchley for 19 off 21 to give James her third wicket.
The Bucks bowler then picked up another couple of wickets in the 35th over as Trussler was caught by Hannah Davis for 23, and Issy Kirby was caught by Ella Claridge for a second-ball duck to give James her five-for, and all but ending Oxfordshire’s hopes of victory to peg them back to 159-7 at the end of the 35th.
Davis then got into the act herself, dismissing Chloe Westbury for four, and although Katie Waugh and Honor Murray offered some resistance, it was all too much for Oxfordshire to do as they were bowled out for 216, Murray the last wicket to fall for 31.
