Sussex retained their County Championship title as they beat Hampshire in an el clasicoast final at the 1st Central County Ground in Hove.
Hampshire first defeated Buckinghamshire by a mammoth 116 runs in their semi-final – Rose & Crown skipper Emily Windsor smashed 85 off just 49 deliveries, whilst fellow Viper Finty Trussler scored 48 opening the batting as Hampshire racked up 176-4 in their 20 overs.
The navy blue side were then as relentless with the ball as they were with the bat, bowling Bucks out for just 60, with Trussler picking up figures of 3-2 in two overs, including a maiden.
The shrimps of Sussex then scored 136-5 in their semi-final against Berkshire, with Southern Vipers’ Mary Taylor smashing 82* from 62 balls at the top of the order, as Holly Rider was the pick of the Berkshire bowlers taking 1-7 from her two overs.
Skipper Ashleigh Muttitt then top scored for Berks with 20, as Mary Taylor was determined to make her mark on the pitch at Hove, taking 2-9 in three overs, with Vipers spinner Nancy Harman picking up 2-14, as the home side won by 64 runs.
The bright pink Sussex prawns batted first again in the final, and it was new Southern Vipers recruit Nicole Faltum who led the way with the bat, scoring 37 with Linsey Smith the next best with 24*.
Gemma Lane was the standout for Hampshire with the ball taking 2-9 from two overs, as Finty Trussler and Gemma Porter also picked up a wicket each.
After a slow start, Hampshire couldn’t quite find the accelerator pedal to chase down their target of 123.
A strong opening stand of 59 between Sophie Mitchelmore and Charlotte Taylor was broken by Chiara Green, who claimed figures of 2-17, but from then, wickets were a regular occurrence as Hampshire ended their innings on 97-6, giving the defending champions their crown.
In Group 3, Dorset were defeated by eventual champions Gloucestershire.
Emelia Butler and Lizzie Williams were the wicket takers for Dorset as the home side put on 155-2 in their 20 overs at Bristol.
Victoria Pack was the top scorer with the bat for Dorset with 15, as Chloe Skelton and Bhoomika Bhat took three wickets apiece for Gloucestershire, along with Melissa Story taking 2-11.
Worcestershire, skippered by Southern Vipers’ Chloe Hill, were beaten by Group 2 winners Warwickshire – Hill making 23 (22) – but neither Oxfordshire or Rhianna Southby’s Surrey were able to get onto the park in Group 6 as their finals day was postponed.
