The all new Perform 5 Road Race and Centurion Fun Run has been hailed a success after more than 700 runners participated in the first event of this type at the The Ageas Bowl.
The Perform 5 Road Race and Centurion Fun Run has been introduced in partnership with sports and exercise medicine specialists Perform, part of Spire Healthcare. The event is the centrepiece of Hampshire Cricket in the Community’s on-going work with Hedge End Running Club, who are based at the The Ageas Bowl.
Congratulations to everyone who completed the course - there was an overwhelming sense of pride, joy and relief at the finish line. We are committed to inspiring people of all ages to keep active, be healthy and live well.
Greig Stewart, Hampshire Cricket in the Community Manager
To have such a brilliant turnout for our very first event is a credit to everyone involved in the event delivery. Special thanks to Hedge End Running Club, Running Mania and Perform who made this all possible.
Runners of all ages and abilities took part, with more than 40 personal best times and numerous road race debutants. The inaugural race winners were Jamie Knapp (Southampton Athletics Club) and Kathy Bailey (Winchester & District Athletics Club) who set course records of 26:08 and 29:40 respectively.
Hampshire Cricket Mascot Roary the Lion was in attendance and was joined by more than a hundred youngsters to complete the Centurion Fun Run, a 1.7km ‘100 run’ challenge.
Sports Therapy experts from Perform Southampton and Perform at the The Ageas Bowl were on hand to provide participants with support and advice before and after their runs.
Here at Perform we are all about health and well-being, so it was fantastic to see so many people, of all ages taking part. It was really special to see people hitting their personal goals, whether that be recording a personal best, just finishing or having some fun.
Tina Dunworth, Centre Manager at Perform Southampton
Perform 5 was a huge success and I really believe one of the reasons was because we had so many kids involved. As an event I think it appealed to families as well as more serious athletes.
It was brilliant to be able to support them all and we look forward to making the event bigger and even better next year. A big thanks to Running Mania and all the marshalls for ensuring we had a successful and safe day
