Sam Northeast Signs New Contract Extension

Hampshire Cricket are delighted to announce that Sam Northeast has signed a new contract extension.

The top-order batsman has been awarded an extended deal which will see him remain at The Ageas Bowl until at least the end of 2022.

After sealing a move to Hampshire in 2018, Northeast has enjoyed a strong start on the south coast, featuring as an integral part of the side across all formats throughout the last three seasons.

The right-hander was a key member of the squad during Hampshire’s triumphant 2018 One-Day Cup winning campaign, contributing to the Club’s first limited-overs trophy in six years in his opening season.

Northeast proved to be crucial to Hampshire’s successes to an even greater extent in his second season, totalling 1,123 First-Class runs in 2019 - 969 of which came in the County Championship – whilst also standing in as captain for significant periods during James Vince’s international commitments that summer.

His success in 2019 earned him a deserved England Lions call-up, with his red-ball run tally – which included four centuries and five fifties – second only to Warwickshire’s Dom Sibley, who received an England Test call-up.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a truncated 2020 domestic season, Northeast’s leadership proved to be a key asset again last summer as he led Hampshire throughout a positive Bob Willis Trophy competition, whilst also notching two half-centuries in the competition’s five fixtures.
