Scott Currie Signs New Deal At Hampshire & Will Continue Development On Loan At Leicestershire

The 22-year-old has signed a new multi-year contract at The Ageas Bowl and has agreed to join Leicestershire on loan for the 2024 season

Bowling all-rounder Scott Currie has signed a new multi-year deal with Hampshire Cricket and has agreed to join Leicestershire on loan for the 2024 season, as the promising cricketer aims to further his development.

The 22-year-old has extended his stay at The Ageas Bowl, committing his future to the Club.

Having joined Leicestershire for their final three County Championship matches in September, he will return to the Uptonsteel County Ground for the duration of the 2024 season.

I’m obviously delighted, but also very grateful. Hampshire has been home now for as long as I can remember. The Club, the members and the friendships I have made here mean a great deal to me.

It’s of course a unique scenario to be spending a year at another club, but I do so with the intention of improving my game and becoming a more rounded player and person.

I’d like to thank Giles and Hampshire for their continued support and long-term backing.

Scott Currie

Currie, who was born in Poole, is a product of Hampshire’s player pathway system, having turned his sole attention to cricket after a period playing football for Portsmouth FC’s academy.

He impressed in the Second XI before making his full First-Class and T20 debuts during the 2020 season. The following season, his 19 wickets from nine matches helped Hampshire Hawks progress to Vitality Blast Finals Day.

In 2022, Currie made three appearances as the Hawks won their third T20 title and he became a crucial member of the 50-over squad.

The right-armer continued to be focused on white-ball cricket for Hampshire during 2023. He took six wickets in five T20 games, while during eight appearances in the Metro Bank One Day Cup he racked up 14 scalps as Hampshire progressed to the final where they narrowly lost out to Leicestershire Foxes.

We are delighted that Scott has extended his contract with us.

He’s a talented and committed cricketer and this opportunity with Leicestershire provides Scott with an opportunity to develop his game and gain further first team exposure.
