Joseph Eckland And Daisy Mullan Released
Keeper-batter Joseph Eckland and all-rounder Daisy Mullan will leave Hampshire Cricket on the expiration of their contracts
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) today announced the player allocations for this summer’s Kia Super League.
Last year's title-winning quartet, Charlotte Edwards, Suzie Bates, Tash Farrant and Arran Brindle all return for the The Ageas Bowl based Southern Vipers, after featuring for the side in last year's inaugural campaign.
England's Danielle Wyatt also joins the Vipers for the 2017 season, switching from Lancashire Thunder who she represented last season.
The Vipers are also pleased to welcome Dane van Niekerk (South Africa) and Hayley Matthews (West Indies) to the squad, with the pair announced as the side's overseas players, joining Suzie Bates (New Zealand).
This is a great time for the Southern Vipers as we welcome new players to the squad. Suzie Bates was with us last year, but all three overseas players have Super League experience and will fit perfectly into our style of play. Tash Farrant and new arrival Danni Wyatt have been training hard with the England squad ahead of this year’s Women’s World Cup.
Bob Parks. Southern Vipers Manager
Tash made an important contribution to our KSL success last year whilst Danni was a major player for Lancashire Lightning. Her outstanding fielding skills will certainly add value to our team. I can’t wait to get started!
After the success of the first Kia Super League last summer, the second season will see six teams taking part in a round-robin competition over a 17-day period and across 13 different venues from Thursday 10 August to Saturday 26 August. The competition will then climax in a showcase finals day on Friday 1 September at the 1st Central County Ground in Hove.
Kia Super League will be broadcast live on television and radio this summer with Sky Sports providing live coverage of six ‘double-headers’ alongside NatWest T20 Blast matches. The Southern Vipers televised home fixture this season will see them take on Western Storm at the The Ageas Bowl on Thursday 10th August, ahead of Hampshire's NatWest T20 Blast fixture against Glamorgan.
This is a huge summer for women’s cricket and we look forward to seeing the world’s best talent on show at both the ICC Women’s World Cup followed by the Kia Super League. There will hopefully be some great momentum behind women’s cricket after the World Cup and the Kia Super League can take advantage of that. It is an opportunity to continue to raise the bar for our sport.
Clare Connor, ECB Director of Women's Cricket
After the success of 2016, we know we can expect to see some outstanding performances in the second season of this T20 competition. Hopefully the players and the quality of cricket can inspire new participants and fans across the country.
Sky Sports will broadcast this year's Kia Super League finals day, with BBC Radio covering every round of matches, alongside finals day.
