Southern Vipers Overseas Roundup: Back In Action

Southern Vipers are playing on the other side of the world this winter with four Vipers out in Australia and New Zealand

The Vipers continued to light up the southern hemisphere over the past week, with four players in match action.

Over in New Zealand, Linsey Smith and Poppy-Jay Watkins helped Otago take down Central Districts in the Super Smash, with the left arm spinner picking up figures of 2-14 from her four overs, dismissing her former Northern Diamonds teammate Hollie Armitage along with opener Georgia Atkinson.

Otago play their final group stage match against Northern Districts at Dunedin, with a win sending them into the top two places in the group.

Over in Australia, Georgia Adams led her New South Wales Breakers to back-to-back victories against Western Australia at the WACA.

NSW successfully defended 153 in their first match before chasing 238 with 4.3 overs to spare, with Adams making 24 and former Viper Maitlan Brown taking 1-18 from four overs.

The two wins see NSW climb to 13 points in the Women’s National Cricket League, although they remain sixth in the table behind Victoria on 19 points.

They play again on the 30th January and 1st February against Australian Capital Territory in Canberra.

At Box Hill CC, Rhianna Southby’s side returned to 50-over action against Ringwood, claiming victory by a whopping 83 runs.

Batting first, Box Hill made 196-9 with Southby scoring 28 before inflicting a run out as Ringwood were skittled for 113 in 38 overs.

Box Hill have a bye next week, with a further three fixtures to play before the competition concludes on the 18th February.

Southern Vipers kick off their Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and Charlotte Edwards Cup title defences on 20th April and 18th May respectively.

Utilita Bowl hosts five Vipers matches, including two double headers with Hampshire Hawks on Thursday 30 May and Friday 14 June.

The Vipers also return to three outgrounds in Wormsley, Arundel Castle, and Falkland CC, along with two trips to the 1st Central County Ground in 2024.
