Southern Vipers Overseas Roundup: Back In National Colours

A strong Southern Vipers contingent have made it to New Zealand, where an England A Women’s side are facing New Zealand as preparation for the IT20 series

England Women have made it to New Zealand, where Georgia Adams, Freya Kemp, and Rhianna Southby are currently featuring for England A against a full-strength New Zealand side as part of the warm up for the main series.

The opening match on Sunday 10th March saw the hosts post 125-6 with Adams picking up the wicket of Georgia Plimmer, and Southby fantastically stumping Brooke Halliday for 12.

In England A’s reply, they slipped to 14-3 but Freya Kemp helped them get back on track with 37 from just 27 deliveries, unleashing shots down the ground and square of the wicket.

Unfortunately, the White Ferns were too strong for the A side, bowling them out for 110 to seal a 15-run victory.

The next match takes place Tuesday 10th March in New Zealand, with a start time of 9pm on 11th March in the UK, before another match on the 14th March (local time) featuring England Women v New Zealand A, with the first IT20 between New Zealand and England Women on 19th March at Dunedin.

The England A Women’s series starts on 16th March in Queenstown, with further T20s on 17th and 20th March, with the three-match one-day series starting on 23rd March with matches also taking place on 28th and 30th March.

New Zealand v England Women Series Schedules:

Over in the WPL, Charlotte Edwards’ Mumbai Indians are currently in second place in the table, level on points with last year’s runners-up Delhi Capitals.

MI have won five of their seven matches, the same as the Capitals, but are currently behind on net run rate.

The reigning champions have one final group stage match left, against Royal Challengers Bangalore, on Tuesday 12th March, starting at 2pm in the UK.

Danni Wyatt’s UP Warriorz, led by England Women head coach Jon Lewis and captained by Australian skipper Alyssa Healy, are currently in fourth and second from bottom, although are level on points with RCB.

The Warriorz take on bottom of the table Gujarat Giants on 11th March, with a win seeing them into third with a spot in the eliminator.

Wyatt is yet to feature in the competition, with Alyssa Healy, Sophie Ecclestone, Grace Harris, Chamari Athapaththu, and Tahlia McGrath all taking up the four overseas sports for any given match.
