Having lifted her fourth trophy of 2023, Georgia Adams returned to 50-over action for New South Wales Breakers in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) a week before Christmas where her side took on Victoria at St Kilda.
In her first innings, she made 43 before a score of 70 just two days later against the same opposition, although Adams ended up on the losing side twice.
In the new year, playing Tasmania, she made 22 before being caught by Lizelle Lee, and 43 although once again, her NSW side couldn’t quite complete victory.
In just four innings, Adams has amassed 178 runs with an average of 44.50 – both the highest for New South Wales.
Despite her success, NSW Breakers currently sit sixth out of seven with just one win and five points from six matches, whilst Queensland top the table with six wins from eight games.
New South Wales return to action against Western Australia on the 19th and 21st January at the WACA.
Staying in Australia, and Rhianna Southby returned to Box Hill CC after her stint in India with England A, with the format shifting from 50 to 20 overs, with a double header on 16th December.
In the first match against Geelong, Box Hill came out on top defending 128, with Southby taking a catch behind the stumps but in the second game, despite scoring 48 and taking two stumpings, Southby’s side weren’t able to keep Plenty Valley under their total of 110.
Box Hill take on Ringwood on 14th January, before facing Essendon Maribyrnong Park later the same day, before the fixtures switch back to 50-overs on the 21st January.
Across the Tasman Sea in New Zealand, Linsey Smith has been playing for Otago Sparks in the Women’s Super Smash where she played in 2022/23.
She also joined Vipers Academy player PJ Watkins, who featured for Otago in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield – New Zealand’s domestic 50-over competition – where she took one wicket and scored 31 runs.
On her Super Smash debut on 21st December, Watkins picked up figures of 4-28, including the wickets of New Zealand internationals Amelia Kerr, Leigh Kasperek, and Rebecca Burns.
She then claimed figures of 2-8 on Boxing Day against Canterbury as the Volts won by three wickets.
In her first game of 2024, Smith took 1-32 as Watkins picked up 2-18 to give Otago a 47-run win against Auckland, then the spinner picked up 1-20 as Northern Districts were kept to just 93-6 from a reduced 15-over innings, as Otago cruised to a nine-wicket win.
Otago’s next fixture is on 10th January where they play Central Districts at Napier.
Southern Vipers' fixtures for the 2024 season have been announced!
