Southern Vipers Overseas Roundup: Eyes On Aotearoa

Eight Vipers are taking part in series against New Zealand and New Zealand A, with England Women playing five IT20s and three ODIs

Aotearoa is the current hotspot for Vipers overseas, as a strong contingent of eight players will be taking part in series involving both England Women and England A Women.

The first of five IT20s between New Zealand and England Women will take place at 1pm local time (12am UK time) on 19th March, whilst the ‘A’ series between both sides has already started.

Firstly though, New Zealand beat England A in their second warm-up match, chasing down 127 with six wickets and 16 balls to spare, whilst in England Women’s warm-up against New Zealand A, Charlie Dean picked up 3-12 from three overs whilst Linsey Smith claimed 2-24 and a run out, as England Women won by a massive 57 runs.

England A’s first T20 against New Zealand A saw a convincing victory for the visitors, as they posted 155-7 with Georgia Adams smashing 65* from just 38 deliveries, with Rhianna Southby making a run-a-ball 21.

Adams then picked up a wicket in her only over of the game, whilst Southby completed a stumping to remove top-scorer Georgia Plimmer for 34, as England A sailed to a 30-run win.

The second match again saw England A cruise to victory, with the hosts only posting 130-4 in their 20 overs, with Southby once again removing Georgia Plimmer by whipping the bails off.

With the bat in hand, Freya Kemp was on top form with 48* from 29, including six fours and one six, as England A knocked off their target with 4.9 overs remaining, and still eight wickets in hand.

England Women’s next match is on Tuesday 19th March, starting at midnight UK time, with England A Women’s next match on Wednesday 20th March, also starting at midnight.
