It’s been a busy week for the Vipers in Aotearoa, with five matches across both England Women and England A sides in the past seven days.
The IT20 series between the White Ferns and England Women kicked off on Tuesday 19th, with the visitors earning a resounding victory.
Maia Bouchier scored 43*, then her highest IT20 score, with captain Heather Knight’s 63 helping England to 160-4.
Lauren Bell then picked up 2-29, dismissing both Kiwi openers, former Viper Suzie Bates, and wicket keeper Izzy Gaze, whilst Charlie Dean claimed a run out at the non-striker’s end as she was able to get a hand to a drive from Bates to catch Maddy Green short of her ground.
England then completed back-to-back wins, as Linsey Smith, making her first international appearance in 1,736 days, picked up a wicket with her first ball back on the world stage in a full Vipers affair - Lauren Bell taking the catch to remove Suzie Bates.
Bell herself claimed 2-24 from her four overs, cleaning up Maddy Green before having Izzy Gaze caught in the deep.
Charlie Dean also picked up a couple of wickets as she trapped skipper Sophie Devine lbw and had Jess Kerr bowled.
Unfortunately, a batting collapse in the third IT20 gave the home side a three-run victory in Nelson.
Amelia Kerr, another former Viper, struck 44* with Sophie Devine’s 60 being at the forefront of New Zealand’s 155-3.
In response, Maia Bouchier smashed her first IT20 half-century, and her second-highest international score, as she took the Kiwi bowlers round the park on her way to 71 off just 47 deliveries, with 11 fours and a six.
However, in the final five overs, England went from 127-2 to 152-8, losing six wickets for just 25 runs, as New Zealand completed an extraordinary comeback to seal victory off the final ball.
England Women’s next match is on Wednesday 27th March, starting at midnight in the UK, with the fifth and final IT20 taking place on Friday 29th March in Wellington before the three-match ODI series begins on Monday 1st April.
England A meanwhile completed a clean sweep of their three-match T20 series against New Zealand A, winning their final match by 13 runs in Queenstown.
Freya Kemp continued her immense start to the tour, smashing 60 from 31 balls, with eight fours and two sixes, as England posted 157-5, with a 14-run cameo from Georgia Adams.
The bowlers then restricted the home side to 144-7, with Rhianna Southby picking up two sharp stumpings to continue her strong tour with the gloves.
In the first one-day match, New Zealand A posted 283 as they were bowled out in 48.1 overs.
Kemp was once again the top scorer in England A’s reply, with 45 off 35, but four wickets for Hayley Jensen and three-for for Leigh Kasperek helped skittle the visitors for just 177.
The second one-dayer takes place on Thursday 28th March starting at 10pm UK time, with the final 50-over fixture on Saturday 30th March, also at 10pm.
