Southern Vipers Overseas Roundup: Quiet In Australia

Georgia Adams was the only Vipers star in action this week in grade cricket, with the Super Smash concluding and both Adams and Rhianna Southby having bye fixtures

It was a slightly quieter week for our Vipers overseas, with the Super Smash coming to a conclusion in New Zealand, and both Georgia Adams and Rhianna Southby having bye weeks in the WNCL and Victoria Grade Cricket.

However, there was still some action for the Vipers’ captain as she returned to Manly Warringah CC in the New South Wales Premier League.

At the Howell Oval on the outskirts of Sydney, Adams batted at three for Manly Warringah as they took on Penrith.

Manly reached 188-9 in their 50 overs, with Adams making 20 off 32 before Penrith were skittled for just 89 inside 28 overs, Adams taking a catch to dismiss Penrith’s vice-captain Elise Noble for one.

The massive victory for Manly Warringah puts them in third place in the NSW Premier League 1st Grade, level on points with second place Campbelltown Camden.

Four fixtures remain for Manly Warringah, none of which clash with Adams’ duties for NSW Breakers in the WNCL.

New South Wales remain in sixth place in the WNCL, despite winning back-to-back matches against Western Australia in their previous round of fixtures.

Adams is once again set to captain the Breakers in their next fixture on Tuesday 30th January when they face ACT Meteors who are yet to find a victory in ten games.

Over in India, fast bowler Lauren Bell has pulled out of the Women’s Premier League.

This year’s WPL, which begins on 23rd February, clashes with England Women’s white ball tour of New Zealand, with the first IT20 starting on 19th March.

England Women captain Heather Knight has also withdrawn from the WPL, with South Africa and The Blaze’s Nadine de Klerk taking her place, whilst Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu replaces Bell at UP Warriorz where she’s set to join up with Danni Wyatt and England Women head coach Jon Lewis.
