Southern Vipers are delighted to announce that ex-England World Cup Winning fast bowler Anya Shrubsole has signed for the Southern Vipers.
She played 173 games for England and took 227 wickets, with a memorable best of 6-46 against India in the 2017 World Cup final at Lord’s, and will join the Vipers in a player/coach role.
I am really looking forward to playing for Southern Vipers and have the opportunity to work with and learn from Charlotte Edwards. Fast bowling is something I am passionate about so I am incredibly grateful to be given the responsibility to work with some young, exciting seamers as I transition into a life after international cricket. I have a lot to learn which excites me immensely and I can’t wait to get started
Anya Shrubsole
I am delighted that we have been able to secure the signing of Anya for the coming season and beyond. Anya will be joining us in early May in the role of player/coach, and as a recent representative of Berkshire Women and current captain of the Southern Brave, the alignment felt a natural fit for Anya to become a Viper. Anya has vast international experience and her playing ambition remains strong, and as a coach, she will provide so much invaluable knowledge and support to our bowlers of today and prospects of tomorrow across our region.

Shrubsole made her international debut in August 2008 against South Africa, and since then, she gained a reputation for being one of the greatest fast bowlers in the world, and one of England’s best ever bowlers.
In 2021, she captained the Southern Brave in the inaugural edition of The Hundred, as her side lost only two matches in the whole competition as the Brave made it to the final.
Shrubsole represented England for 14 years as she announced her retirement on 14th April 2022.

The 10th edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup gets underway on 7 February, with Pakistan facing the Netherlands in the opening fixture. The tournament will be hosted across India and Sri Lanka, with the final set to take place on 8 March.
The South African-born right-hand bowler is involved in Scotland’s World Cup squad with the tournament commencing on Saturday 7th February.
