T20 Look Back: Brad Wheal v Glamorgan

Brad Wheal took three wickets as Hampshire qualified for Vitality Blast Finals Day in unlikely circumstances

Glamorgan were the visitors to The Ageas Bowl as Hampshire needed a miracle to qualify for the quarter-final of the Vitality Blast.

Hampshire won the toss and chose to bowl first, knowing that chasing a target would be the easiest way for the team to qualify for the next stages of the competition.

Liam Dawson had Carlson caught in the first over, but Glamorgan responded as Marnus Labuschagne and David Lloyd put on a 91-run partnership.

That was finally broken when Wheal had Lloyd caught at mid-off, bowling the ball into the pitch and the Glamorgan batter couldn’t get the elevation to clear captain James Vince.

Wheal’s next breakthrough was the key wicket of Australian star Labuschagne, who was caught behind after he was beaten for pace by a bouncer from the South African born Wheal.

The Hampshire man’s trio of wickets was completed when Colin Ingram pulled another length ball, this time into the safe hands of James Fuller at long on.

Glamorgan finished on 184/4, which meant Hampshire needed to chase that target down inside 14 overs to have any chance of qualification. Quick innings from D’arcy Short, Joe Weatherley and Vince helped Hampshire sprint to the total with an over to spare.
