T20 Look Back: Mason Crane v Kent

Mason Crane was the star bowler in Hampshire’s defeat against eventual champions Kent

The first game of last year’s Vitality Blast was a tough one for the Hampshire Hawks, but one bowler stood out.

The Canterbury pitch played into the hands of the slower bowlers, particularly leg spinner Mason Crane.

In his allocated four overs only, he only went for 23 runs – an economy rate of 5.75 – and only conceded a single boundary.

He also took three wickets in his spell.

The first was Daniel Bell-Drummond, who went on to become the third leading run scorer in the tournament.

The Kent opener looked to hit across the line and got a leading edge which fell into the safe hands of Hawks captain James Vince.

Crane’s next victim was the dangerous Alex Blake who was beaten by the turn as he looked to heave the leggie into the on side but was castled middle stump for just two.

Jack Leaning then found his back foot dragged out slightly when he reached for a ball which span past the edge, and Lewis McManus finished the job to give Crane his third scalp.
