Hampshire Cricket are saddened to learn of the death of former dressing room manager Terry Brewer, who passed away last week at age 85.

Born in Southampton in 1938, Brewer was a lifelong Hampshire Cricket and Southampton FC fan who worked behind the scenes at the Club from 1993 until 2018.

James Vince, Hampshire Cricket Captain, said: "Terry was a pleasure to be around, always putting a smile on people’s faces. A very generous person who was always looking to help others."

Liam Dawson, Hampshire Cricket all-rounder, said: "I first met Terry when I was 15 playing for the 2nd XI. He always looked out for me. I got to know him really well over the years and I loved how much he cared about Hampshire and his beloved Saints."

Chris Wood, Hampshire Cricket bowler, said: "Terry was there the moment I walked into the dressing room for the first time, what a kind hearted gentleman who was incredibly welcoming. Terry was the perfect dressing room manager, light hearted, caring and loved a good old joke. He will be sorely missed and forever part of the Hampshire family."

Giles White, Hampshire’s Director of Cricket, said: "I joined the Club on the same day as Terry and we became very close over the years. As in the way in professional sport we shared many ups and downs. Throughout he was a great support and loyal friend. I will miss him but I feel lucky to be able to hold onto the memories – we shared some great times."

Jimmy Adams, former Hampshire Cricket captain and current Lead Batting Coach, said: "Terry Brewer was part of the furniture at Hampshire. An integral part of the club for many years, Terry’s value to the environment, and his welcoming and positive influence on the teams around him, cannot be underestimated. He made the changing room a better place and all of us better individuals.

"There may have been plenty of gentle digs regarding Tel’s ability to disappear at times – ‘anyone seen Tel?’ was an often a repeated question – but his gentle and warm presence is woven into the fabric of Hampshire Cricket. He is sorely missed but fondly remembered by all of us that were lucky to have known him."

Tim Tremlett, former Hampshire Cricket bowler and current Cricket Operations Manager, said: "Terry was extremely popular with players, umpires, members of staff, supporters and made sure that everyone received the same warm welcome. Caring and thoughtful nothing was ever too much trouble. Terry travelled with the team to Finals Days on many occasions. He cried when they lost, cried when they won and had a knack of quickly putting things in to perspective if and when necessary."

His funeral will take place at Southampton Crematorium's East Chapel on Tuesday August 13 at 10.45am, and afterwards at The King Rufus, Chandlers Ford.
