Tickets Sold Out For Women’s Ashes ODI At The Ageas Bowl

England Women will face Australia in front of a full house at The Ageas Bowl on Sunday 16th July

England Women will be roared on by 12,000 supporters when they play Australia in the Women’s Ashes at The Ageas Bowl later this month after tickets for the highly anticipated ODI sold out.

Officials at the venue confirmed tickets officially sold out over the weekend, guaranteeing a record attendance for a women’s game at The Ageas Bowl, the home of cricket in Hampshire.

England and Australia fought out a closely contested T20 match at Edgbaston on Saturday in the latest instalment of this year’s Women’s Ashes series, with the Aussies narrowly winning thanks largely to a stellar innings from batter Beth Mooney, whose score of 61 from 47 balls saw them home in the final over.

However, England will have been encouraged by some stand-out performances of their own, including a half century from Sophia Dunkley, an impressive cameo from wicket keeper Amy Jones (40 runs from 21 balls), and superb bowling from Southern Vipers’ own Lauren Bell, who recorded figures of 2-32, including the key wicket of Australian captain Alyssa Healy.

Bell is one of four Southern Vipers players called up to the T20 squad by England, with Maia Bouchier, Charlie Dean and Danni Wyatt all hopeful of featuring as the series continues and no doubt keen to retain their places for the ODI at The Ageas Bowl.

The Vipers are based at The Ageas Bowl and Bell, Bouchier, Dean, and Wyatt will all have happy memories of playing at the venue after helping their team to a resounding seven wicket win over Western Storm during a double-header fixture with fellow T20 champions, Hampshire Hawks, back in May.

Staging more women’s games at The Ageas Bowl and basing the Vipers’ team there full-time is indicative of the increased investment in the women’s game here in Hampshire and is mirrored by an increasing number of local opportunities for girls to play cricket.

And Hampshire Cricket has seen an encouraging growth in not only the number of supporters attending women’s fixtures – including the record 12,000 who will be at the England v Australia ODI - but also in the number of young girls and women playing the sport on a regular basis.

The demand for tickets for the women’s Ashes ODI has been absolutely fantastic and it is great to see the increased interest in the women’s game locally.

Here at Hampshire, we are fortunate to have a successful team in the Southern Vipers - who have just secured their second domestic T20 title in a row - and we know their success is not only encouraging more people to watch the sport, but also inspiring more young girls to pick up a bat for the first time.

To see more women and girls playing cricket in Hampshire than ever before and now having a women’s ODI match sell out really shows our commitment to growing the game is having an impact.

That commitment has been recognised by the ECB, which has awarded The Ageas Bowl a string of future women’s internationals – including a first-ever women’s Ashes Test in 2031.

An announcement will be made over the coming days confirming details of the next women’s international ODI at the venue, which will take place in 2024 – with tickets on sale soon and expected to once again be in high demand.
