Hampshire Cricket are pleased to announce that young batter Toby Albert has signed a two-year contract extension, which will see Toby remain at The Ageas Bowl until at least the end of 2024.
The 20-year-old joined the Club’s Academy in 2018 and demonstrated his clear potential as a top or middle order batter with some fantastic performances across all formats for both Hampshire’s Academy and latterly, the Club’s Second XI.
These exciting contributions saw him selected for two Vitality Blast games for Hampshire Hawks in 2021 – facing Somerset in the competition’s group stage, before being selected to open the batting alongside Club captain James Vince against the same opposition at 2021 Vitality Blast Finals Day at Edgbaston.
During the winter, he was also selected by Chennai Braves in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
In 2022, Albert’s First XI opportunities have continued, making his mark in both the Vitality Blast and the Royal London Cup. In the T20 competition, his introduction to the team coincided with their upturn in form as they won eight of the nine games he played in. In total, Albert scored 83 runs at an average of 27.66 as the Hawks went on to lift the Vitality Blast trophy.
His good form continued with some eye-catching performances in the ongoing Royal London Cup. From the opening five matches, Albert has scored 218 runs at an average of 72.66. Most recently he put in two match winning performances – 84* against Derbyshire and 65* against Lancashire – to see Hampshire over the line in both fixtures.
I’m delighted to stay at this great Club for another two years.
Toby Albert
I’ve made some great memories and great friends in the short time since moving from the Academy to the First XI.
Hopefully I can continue to contribute as Hampshire aim for more trophies in the future.
We’re thrilled that Toby has committed his future to the Club.
Giles White, Hampshire Director Of Cricket
Toby made the step up to the First XI last year and has looked at home ever since.
He made a significant contribution in this year’s successful Vitality Blast campaign has already impressed in the Royal London Cup – we look forward to Toby’s continued development and are excited to see what’s next for him.
The best way to see Toby in action is with a Hampshire Cricket Membership, granting the ultimate access to Hampshire and Hampshire Hawks’ endeavours. Memberships for 2023 will go on sale in September 2022 with more information available at www.ageasbowl.com/membership.
