Tom Alsop Signs A Permanent Deal With Sussex

The wicketkeeper-batter leaves for Hove on a permanent basis

Hampshire Cricket can today announce that wicketkeeper-batter Tom Alsop has signed a permanent deal with Sussex.

The 26-year-old has been on loan at Hove and the deal has now been made permanent.

Alsop is a product of Hampshire’s pathway system and made his debut for the Club in 2014.

He played a key part in Hampshire’s successful 2018 Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, scoring a total of 248 runs – including 72 in the final against Kent Spitfires - at an average of 49.60 as the team won the competition at Lord’s.

In 2019, he continued to impress in List A cricket as he recorded a 130* against Glamorgan at The Ageas Bowl and followed it up soon after with a 124 against his new employers.

During the same season, Alsop scored a career best 150 against Warwickshire in the County Championship.

He scored two more red-ball centuries last year – 149 against Gloucestershire and 119 against Leicestershire.

Tom has made a significant contribution across all formats since his debut in 2014.

His performances in both 2018 and 2019’s Royal London Cup campaigns were integral to the Club reaching back-to-back Lord’s finals and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Tom for everything he contributed to the group during his time with Hampshire.

We wish him the best of luck as he begins a new chapter in his career.

Giles White, Hampshire Director of Cricket

Overall, Tom has racked up 146 appearances for Hampshire across all formats, scoring 4,751 runs – with eight centuries – and taking 120 catches.

Everyone at Hampshire Cricket would like to thank Tom for his efforts at the Club and we wish him all the best for the future.
