Pace Bowler Brad Wheal Extends His Stay At Hampshire
Hampshire and Scotland fast bowler Brad Wheal has extended his contract with the Rose and Crown
2022 Vitality Blast champions Hampshire Hawks begin their 2023 T20 campaign at Taunton against Somerset on Wednesday 24th May.
We are counting down the days until the Hawks’ title defence begins and today marks 50 days until then. Australian wicketkeeper and opener Ben McDermott scored a 38-ball 50 during the Hawks’ trip to Bristol to take on Gloucestershire in the 2022 group stage.
Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to field first, taking the wicket of skipper James Vince in the third over.
However, fellow opener McDermott hit five fours and two maximums on his way to a half-century from just 38 balls before departing in the 13th over.
Some more late runs helped the Hawks to a total of 178/7.
The home side failed to chase the target down, making 169/7 from their 20 overs. All five Hawks’ bowlers took wickets, with James Fuller’s 2-23 the stand out.
It left the Hawks in a strong position to qualify for the quarter-final going into the final two group matches.
